Review: 2017 Subaru BRZ SportTech Canadian Auto Review
Subaru cars are known for their usage of a boxer engine layout in many vehicles above 1500 cc. The Symmetrical All Wheel Drive drive-train layout has been around since 1972. The flat/boxer engine and all-wheel-drive became standard equipment for mid-size and smaller cars in many international markets by 1996, and it is now standard in many North American market Subaru vehicles. The lone exception will be the BRZ, introduced in 2012 by way of a partnership with Toyota, which uses the boxer engine but rather uses a rear-wheel-drive structure. Subaru offers turbocharged versions of the passenger cars, for example the Impreza WRX and also the Legacy GT.In Western markets, the Subaru brand has traditionally been used by a dedicated core of buyers. Marketing is targeted towards specific niches focused entirely on those who desire the business's signature drive train engine, all-wheel/rough-road capabilities or affordable sports vehicle markets.Subaru will be the Japanese term for the Pleiades star cluster M45, and the "Seven Sisters" (among whom tradition says is invisible – hence only six stars within the Subaru logo), which often inspires the brand and alludes towards the companies that merged to produce FHI.
