Subaru cars are known for their usage of a boxer engine layout in the majority of vehicles above 1500 cc. The Symmetrical All Wheel Drive drive-train layout has been available since 1972. The flat/boxer engine and all-wheel-drive became standard equipment for mid-size and smaller cars in many international markets by 1996, which is now standard for most North American market Subaru vehicles. The lone exception will be the BRZ, introduced in 2012 by using a partnership with Toyota, which uses the boxer engine but uses a rear-wheel-drive structure. Subaru now offers turbocharged versions in their passenger cars, such as Impreza WRX plus the Legacy GT.In Western markets, the Subaru brand has traditionally been loved by a dedicated core of buyers. Marketing is targeted towards specific niches devoted to those who desire their signature drive train engine, all-wheel/rough-road capabilities or affordable performance car markets.Subaru could be the Japanese reputable name the Pleiades star cluster M45, or "Seven Sisters" (certainly one of whom tradition says is invisible – hence only six stars from the Subaru logo), which inturn inspires the brand and alludes for the companies that merged to build FHI.
